The IoT Lab was formally founded in 2016 and it represents the natural evolution of the Wireless Ad-hoc and Sensor Networks (WASN) Laboratory (2006-2016). The latter was born to coordinate the activities related to advanced wireless networking, with focus on ad-hoc and sensor networking.
The main research activity of WASN Lab focused, in the last years, on three main interwoven research areas:
- wireless networking and communication,
- signal processing,
- Internet of Things.
Since all these activities tend to revolve around the design and implementation of connected systems of smart things and cyber physical systems (with large data collection), the name was changed to IoT Lab to better reflect the focus of the group. Interdisciplinarity is a key principle of all research activities.
